a young novelist kabir (ali fazal) is a one-book wonder and is on an inspirational journey to find himself and write his book. he meets a young and beautiful lady meera (sapna pabbi) who runs the isolated guest-house in kashmir, which he finds weird. meera is married to the owner of this guest-house jaidev (gurmeet) who was once a rich paper mill owner. jaidev under the disguise of his charming persona is a controlling demon. kabir soon begins to encounter unusual things and discovers secrets about the house and its owner meera. meera is evasive about these suspicious incidents that are taking place. the more kabir interacts with meera about these strange incidents the more he gets drawn towards her. what are the secrets that are hidden behind her silence? khamoshiyan gives you gripping answers to those questions. without doubt, the movie will help bhatt's to regain the place in the horror-genre. in fact, it's after a really long gap that they seem to be in a complete command. the writing by vikram bhatt, is well structured while director karan builds and sustains the required mystery around it until he thrills us all with its convincing climax. what’s more intriguing is the chemistry between ali-sapna and gurmeet-sapna. you are never able to judge what is going in their mind when they play with their intimacy. but that’s what is required in the game of lust and love here.

everyone within hearing range bursts into peals of laughter -- the film has gone on three long hours in which very little of substance or consequence has happened. inspired from real life events of shivkar bapuji talpade, the first indian scientist credited to have constructed the first unmanned plane, has a historically significant event at its core. but thanks to the film’s half-baked treatment, it is reduced to appearing like a flight of fancy of an impulsive wastrel than an ambitious dream of a strong-willed genius. a young shivkar talpade (called shivi) is thrown out of the house by his zamindar father after he challenges his ideas and doesn’t live up to his expectations. he is taken in by scientist shastri (a glassy-eyed mithun chakraborty) on the condition that shivi help him in his secret project -- constructing a hawai jahaaz.

going by the title, it’s quite evident that this film is all about a girl’s pursuit of her ideal man. but it isn’t. main aur mr right has much more to offer owing to several interesting elements — not just in terms of its story — that come across as a whiff of breath air. the sad part is they fizzle out either due to lack of depth in execution or plain ignorance concerning stark loopholes. a tighter film, featuring actors who can actually act, would have served the script better. the female protagonist who runs a casting agency appears like she’s leading a perfect life. so much so she ensures everything from the rose in a vase to a strand of her locks has to be in order. in reality, she knows what’s going on but it takes her a while to accept it. in the meantime, she bumps into a struggling actor who is persuaded to play her boyfriend in front of her friends. it is supposed to be a plan to shut them up as they are always taunting her about her non-existent mr right. despite knowing very well that she is taking a huge gamble with him given his background, she goes ahead foolhardily and grooms him up for the part. he was paid to pretend but he ends up revealing the cracks in the aforementioned friend circle. and that’s also the high point of the otherwise clich�d film.

titli isn’t an enthusiastic participant in his brothers’ small-time yet brutal capers, so baawla proposes they find him a wife whom they can control and who, in turn, can control him. however, neelu (shivani raghuvanshi) turns out to be far less pliant than anyone expected. deeply unhappy with the betrothal, she fights off titli’s attempts to consummate the relationship on their wedding night (shot in intense closeups attesting to the thesps’ talent), proving herself far more than the silent, weepy bride she first appeared. when she gets the full measure of her in-laws’ criminality, she flees, but then makes a bargain: she’ll stay until her lover, prince (prashant singh), gets his divorce, and in eturn will give titli the money he needs to buy his way out of the family’s grasp.

‘dolly ki doli’ produced by arbaaz khan and directed by abhishek dogra is among those films, which have women as their protagonist. and in this film, we have sonam kapoor playing dolly, the “looter bahu”. it was evident from the trailer that dolly is a “dulhan” who loots her husbands’ families and elopes with her accomplices (comprising of a fake father, mother, brother, photographer and a pandit). and sonam kapoor as dolly befits the character, thanks to her drop-dead gorgeous appearance. it’s her beauty that catches her preys off guard. and she has a devout gang that hatches plots to con many more prospective grooms.

rarely you come across an indian movie that doesn't hit a single false note. baby is one such film. writer-director neeraj pandey has made a brilliant film that is not only technically at par with the best in the world, but it's also a dispassionate non-judgmental take on terrorism that's completely devoid of jingoism and is extremely gripping. full marks to producer bhushan kumar for believing in such a landmark film, backed by exceptional marketing especially when it's devoid of songs. firoze ali khan (danny) heads a special operations wing of commandoes called baby. in a conversation with a senior minister in the beginning of the film, he states that the government ought to win the confidence of the muslim community in india, for pakistan is taking advantage of the community's sense of alienation within india. in another scene ajay singh rajput (akshay kumar) tells an isi agent taufeeq (mujeeb khan) how he defended a muslim family during the gujarat riots and why he puts 'indian' in the religion bracket in all forms that he fills. somehow this sets the tone for the film that terrorists don't have a religion and no particular community ought to be associated with terrorism.
