Welcome To Karachi
(According to Anil Rock Welcome To Karachi is a 0 star movie)

I Love Desi
(According to Anil Rock I Love Desi is a 0 star movie)
he drama ensues when punjab gets rejected for a marriage proposal, because of his educational qualifications. furious, he relocates to canada, where he ends up being framed for a murder. the film then shifts to illegal immigration problem, which we recently saw in the cross-over film, surkhaab. the film hardly touches the main topic, but represents an important aspect of the indian community in canada. priyanka shah plays a rich nri simran, who hates her name and has recently inherited her father’s riches. his will states that she should marry an indian boy, only after which she will receive his property entirely. simran then decides to use punjab, helping him get out of jail. the film has many dilwale dulhania le jayenge references, notably with ‘simran’ and punjab’s obsession with it. the cinematography is stunning. the screenplay is weak, with the dialogues looking forced. the only one who seems comfortable in front of the camera is gulshan grover, who carries out the role of a loving father convincingly. the songs are peppy and utilizes the locations efficiently. while the first half is a drag, the second half is quick and emotional, encapsulating a family drama in a poignant manner. why you should watch this film? i love desi is a delightful love story that has it’s own share of funny moments. though the story is predictable, it’s definitely worth a watch this weekend.

Dil Dhadakne Do
(According to Anil Rock Dil Dhadakne Do is a 0 star movie)
usually, when bollywood tackles the dysfunctional family, we get generally likeable people with a few eccentricities — too loud, too uptight, etc. the mehra family, in contrast, consists mainly of borderline sociopaths. yet, the fact that these people are truly damaged makes them more relatable and endearing, not less. the movie is not blind to their flaws, it explores them. we do not need to pretend these people are perfect, we need to understand how they got to where they are. without condemning or condoning any character's choice, dil dhadakne do has compassion and insight rare in big budget, ensemble movies of this kind. kamal and neelam mehra embark on a cruise amidst an idyllic mediterranean setting, surrounded by their friends and family on the occasion of their 30th anniversary. instead of a fantasy vacation, however, it underlines their bleak reality. they only arrange the trip to distract from the fact that kamal mehra's empire is on the verge of bankruptcy (probably due to extravagant expenses like this one). the invited guests are not people the mehra's want to spend time with but people they need to impress. what would be aspirational in another movie comes off like a cautionary tale here. it's impossible to drool over the lavish interiors, gorgeous scenery and designer clothing without constantly being reminded that all this outward luxury simply masks the grating emptiness of our protagonists' lives. the opulence is for the benefit of on-lookers; no one is actually enjoying this journey. the cruise is so suffocating that by the end, our lead characters have to literally escape on a lifeboat. thankfully, the resolution while hopeful, is not saccharine. they don't suddenly become wonderful people, they simply gain some perspective and self-awareness. having a primary focus on perception and presentation takes a toll on your soul and it makes sense for all these characters to exist at various levels of moral ambiguity.

Hamari Adhuri Kahani
(According to Anil Rock Hamari Adhuri Kahani is a 0 star movie)
to sum up, ‘hamari adhuri kahani’ may not appeal to a certain section of the audience. however, it is just what the doctor ordered for those who believe in tragic love storiethe film’s editing is good and creates a fluid narrative. but it could have been a bit better in the opening scenes. the music has tremendous situational appeal .'zaroori tha' is the pick of the lot, thanks to its sensitive lyrics. shagufta rafique’s dialogues are bit dated. luckily, this drawback is covered up as the actors deliver them in a convincing manner.
