this film is a disaster all right, but it is mitigated somewhat by a quirky if uneven subplot that has akshay playing himself and poking constant fun at the work that he has done thus far as a bollywood actor.
as he shoots a regular flick in mauritius, the star awaits the arrival of a director named ranjit basu (subrat dutta).
this guy has numerous national awards in his kitty and he has supposedly rustled up a role that could rescue akshay from the rs 100-crore rut.
desperate to win a national award of his own, akshay gives the deadly boring director a long rope even as he spouts pretentious mumbo-jumbo about method acting and getting into the skin of a character.
akshay does heed the man's sage advice, but not quite in the way that one would have imagined.
matters spiral out of control and not the least because of the repeated intrusions into the actor's make-up tent by a crazy female fan.

piyush mishra as pinki, a mousy spice merchant, leads the pack with his super act, akshay kumar, is the surprise package of the film. akshay as a superstar trapped in his own image is hilarious. he should take up more films like the shaukeens.
lissom lisa haydon as ahana looks sexy yet sweet but needs to work on her acting skills.

shaukeen has 3 lecherous old men (played by ashok kumar, utpal dutt and a.k. hangal) who decide to go away for a while to have some enjoyment late in their lives. they hire a driver ravi (mithun chakraborty), a friend of the son of choudhuri (ashok kumar), who takes the name sakhram. he ends up convincing them to go to goa where he has his lover, who works as a singer/dancer at a local club. while in goa, the three old men get in hilarious situations with rati (rati agnihotri) as they try to impress her and try to get lucky with her, oblivious to the fact that she is their driver's lover.
