luck is everything. my good luck in life was to be a really frightened person. i'm fortunate to be a coward, to have a low threshold of fear, because a hero couldn't make a good suspense film. - alfred hitchcock stunning, gripping, edge-of-the-seat, shocking, engrossing... use any of these adjectives for this ajay devgn version of drishyam, and you are spot on. there is just one caveat: don't compare it with the original in 2013 which had mohanlal.drishyam works because it's a finely crafted suspense thriller after a really long time. drishyam works because you thought indian filmmakers can't make good thrillers. drishyam works because it shows two different india. drishyam works because visuals can be deceptive.

bollywood has made a comedy about suicide bombers, and yes, it really does feature a man singing and dancing while fitting a vest with explosives. praise be, then, that critic-turned-director karan.the problem with bangistan is that it tries to be too many things at the same time. the film's promos promise a comedy however, the jokes soon start falling flat one after the other. then the director suddenly decides to make a preachy film with a social message on religious harmony.

most impressively, "rogue nation" keeps the body count minimal.rogue nation plays out like a sufficient rejigging of the same variables tossed around many times before, which is just enough to both celebrate the material and demonstrate its limitations.it’s amazing, and genuinely touching. at the age of 53 mr. cruise continues to give his all to these films, and his all in this latest episode is more than enough.

the makers have done a smart thing by retaining almost all the key scenes from warrior in brothers. these are the points where the audience feels involved in the story. it’s amazing to see how the same issues affect lives in two different spheres. however, the problem starts the moment it deviates from the original storyline. nick nolte was a man with a restrained demeanour, but gary has a special affinity for theatrics. apart from the scene where he spoils monty’s birthday, he mostly reminds the viewer of yesteryear’s villain nilu phule. he either barges into a room with a loud sound or cries inconsolably, but fails to recreate the same effect that nolte did without hamming. you remember how powerful the warrior scene was where nolte gets drunk and hardy consoles him. brothers recreates it but with absolutely zero impact.

manjhi the mountain man is also one of the most touching and inspiring love stories in bollywood. married in childhood, dashrath and faguniya hardly spent four-five years together before she dies. the bond that the duo develops during that short period can be clearly seen as the reason behind the 22-year-long struggle dashrath undertakes to ensure that no one else dies the way his wife did. every time dashrath is about to lose his patience, falguniya's spirit appears and reminds him why he needs to do it, charging him up all over again.when the villagers are celebrating after he has cut away the mountain, dashrath sees faguniya once again dancing along the others in a colourful attire.
